What Are Your Habits?

We all have habits.  They make our life go smoother.  When something is a habit we don't have to think about it.  We don't have to make a choice.  We just do it.  We all have what we would consider "good" habits and "bad" habits as well as "neutral" habits.

Maybe you relax in a warm bubble bath every night before you go to bed to help you sleep.  You may jump out of bed each morning and go for a run.  Maybe you start the day with a cup of tea or coffee.  You may stop by Starbucks every morning on your way to work for a double latte. Or, you may go sit in front of the TV every evening after dinner. You may eat a chocolate candy bar every afternoon for your snack. Your habitual breakfast may be a fresh fruit shake.

Stop a moment and think about your habits.  What are they?  Are your habits making you healthier or happier or more productive?  Most of us will have to stop and think because habits are parts of our life that we don't usually think about.  They are things we do that are ingrained.

It may be time to run through your list of habits and change some of those "not so good" ones to "healthy" ones.  That's what this site is all about... healthy habits.  If you're going to have habits, wouldn't it be great to have healthy ones?  Once those new healthy behaviors become habits, you won't have to make choices and decisions so often like:

  • Should I grab a couple of beers on the way home?
  • Should I stop and get a muffin on the way to work?
  • Should I wear my seat belt?
  • Should I go to the gym for a work-out?
  • Should I cook dinner tonight?
  • Should I pack my lunch?
  • What should I have for breakfast?

What are some markers for good health?  Actually, let's look at the markers for excellent health and go ahead and bypass "good."  Once you know where your health markers fall, you will then know whether you need to change some habits so you can make healthier choices in your life.
